Collection: Sashiko

What is Sashiko?

The Japanese word sashiko means ‘little stabs’ or running stitch. Humble beginnings led to creating home necessities by devising a simple stitch to quilt several layers of loosely woven fabric for strength and warmth.

Modern sashiko designs have now rejuvenated interest by using traditional Japanese designs worked onto the indigo-dyed fabric with White contrast running stitch. Adding a luxury finish to quilting, home furnishings and craft projects.

Sashiko embroidery is very popular and originates from Japan.  Traditionally used to repair clothing during 1600s to 1800s and making them stronger and warmer.  This thread is ideal to use with Sew Easy Sashiko Cotton Fabric and Templates.
